The Equality and Human Rights Commission defined human rights as the basic rights and freedom that belong to every person in the world, from birth until death; and these rights are based on shared values like dignity, equality, respect and independence. These values are defined and protected by law. (Equality and Human Rights Commission, 2019)

The United Nations Human Rights Commission added that this principle hinged on the ability to be universal and inalienable, indivisible and interdependent, equal and non-discriminatory and are both rights and obligations. (UNHRC, 1996-2021)

Having heard all these, are you wondering like me, “why on earth do we have a flagrant disregard for human rights in our homes, offices, educational institutions, movie industry, government establishments, communities, religious institutions, health industry, events industry, and everywhere people congregate???’.

 WHAT IS GOING ON?

Here’s my personal opinion on this, PROTECTING MY HUMAN RIGHTS IS MY RESPONSIBILITY. Taking inference from Jesus’ admonition to Peter, “…and when you recover, strengthen the other disciples.” ( GOD’S WORD® Translation, 2021); once I’ve secured and lived everyday enjoying my rights, I will advocate for those around me to have their rights protected as well.

 ACTIONS TO TAKE TODAY!

  • Let’s fight to protect and enjoy our BASIC RIGHTS to dignity, equality, respect and independence!
  • Let’s not infringe on the basic rights of those around us in a bid to enjoy your life: BE CONSIDERATE & EMPATHETIC
  • Don’t keep quiet when you see another person’s right being violated, let’s be ONE ANOTHER’S KEEPER
